4 Tips on Protecting Your Property from Wind Damage
You can’t stop the wind from blowing, but it doesn’t mean you can’t protect your property when it does. Marietta roofing company Georgia Roof Advisors shares some tips that can help minimize wind damage to your property.

Perform Regular Roof Inspections — If you already have a scheduled maintenance agreement with your roofing company, don’t skip it. Scheduled maintenance should be done every year or so. Between these appointments, you should perform roof inspections twice a year: before and after winter, and another after every storm. A visual inspection, conducted using a pair of binoculars, or recorded using a remote-controlled drone, is sufficient. Let your roofing contractor know if you find any problems, and arrange for repair as soon as possible.
Keep Your Gutters Clean — Clean gutters prevent the kind of damage caused by wind-driven rain, including moisture damage to the roof deck that leads to costly roof repair. You can opt to clean the gutters yourself, or hire professionals like us to clean it for you. Also, consider investing in a good gutter protection system, which either filters or blocks leaves and other solid materials from getting into gutter troughs. It also helps reduce gutter cleaning and maintenance requirements while helping prolong its life span.
Trim Surrounding Trees — Trees provide shade and shelter, and can even reduce wind damage and erosion around your property. However, you have to make sure that the branches are not touching the roof. Sharp branches may scrape protective granules off an asphalt shingle roof, or the coating off a metal roof. Exposing the underlying material to the elements can accelerate deterioration of your roof. Hire a local arborist who can safely trim the branches without harming the tree.
Clear Loose Objects in the Yard — Loose items strewn in the yard, such as tools and toys, are harmless. But when high winds hit your area, these same items can become projectiles that can damage the windows and siding. Make sure you periodically clean the yard and put loose items in their appropriate containers.
