Is A Leaking Roof An Emergency?

When your roof leaks, it may not seem like a big deal at first. But, this problem will continue to grow, causing your home more damage and cost you more money to repair. So, it is best to get it fixed as soon as possible, preferably by a professional. In this article, we will go through step-by-step on how you can assess your damage from leaking, and how urgent it is to reach out to a roofing expert that can help. Here at Georgia Roof Advisors, we specialize in leak detection and analysis of why the damage is happening (it can be hard sometimes, water does strange things) and are always available to provide you and your family with assistance, especially in an emergency situation. So, let’s get into it.

There are two ways to classify a leaking roof, and they are:

  • Emergencies

  • Non-emergencies (but are still worth the concern)

When A Leak Is An Emergency If anything about the leak affects anyone who resides in the building (whether it is your home or a commercial building), it is considered an emergency and a roofer should be contacted right away. When assessing the leak, check to see if it could drip on anything that is electric. If so, then that could potentially be a life-threatening situation for anyone inside the building Also, if there are any spots forming that look like they could leak, if any of the walls inside are wet or moist, or if the drips are coming so rapidly that you constantly have to get another bucket, then that would be considered an emergency situation. Emergency leaks must be fixed by a professional roofing contractor as soon as possible, and likely cannot wait any more than a couple hours or until the next morning.

When A Leak Is A Not An Emergency What differentiates emergency and non-emergency leaks is how much of a danger they are in that very moment. A non-emergency should still be a concern, but it is something that can wait to be taken care of, perhaps the next morning, or after you’re done with work for the week. You must remember that non-emergencies are still urgent. If ignored for too long, then a non-emergency will become an emergency, and can do a lot of expensive damage. An example of a nonemergency would include an area that drips very slowly and in small amounts when it rains.

All In All, Every Leak Needs To Be Addressed No matter what situation you are in, it never hurts to have a professional check it out and assess a leak of any kind. Some leaks go undetected for years, but they can do a great deal of interior damage to your home.
